Welcome! I’m William Hammett–call me Billy. I’ve been writing since I was seven, when I sent a three-page, single-spaced Perry Mason mystery to Erle Stanley Gardner, the creator of Perry Mason. He was kind enough to write back, challenging me to give him some competition in the bookstores in the years ahead. I still have that letter, and I wanted to be a writer from that moment on. With a Masters in English and Education, I taught writing at colleges and universities for over twenty years, during which time I honed my craft and published my first pieces in newspapers and local magazines. Later, I published poetry in dozens of literary journals around the country. After a few false starts and some rejections, I published three novels with Word Wrangler Press in Montana. It didn’t give me fame or fortune, but editors and agents had finally recognized my work as worthy of publication. I moved on to ghostwriting in 2000 in order to use my writing skills fulltime, and it has been a great ride, working with celebrities, businessmen and women, and ordinary people with great ideas. I’m an “independent” and refuse to have any relationship with large ghostwriting companies, most of which appear to be scam operations. More on this can be seen on my website or in my article for Preditors and Editors online. I also plan several blog entries on ghostwriting scams. So please browse and enjoy yourself. I hope the information posted on the blog will inform people about this uncommon profession. You are invited to visit my website at freelanceghost
